Science Investigation Morning – Monday 6 January 2025
Our question is…
Everyone joined in with our Science investigation.
All of the classes made and tested spinners! We talked about our variables (size of spinner, number of paper clips, height of drop…) and we talked about what we could observe (how many spins it did, how long did it take to drop to the floor…)
EYFS decided to investigate what the difference would be if they put one paperclip on one spinner and a chain of paperclips on another one! They decided that the best spinner would be the one that reached the floor first. Their prediction was that the one with the paperclip chain would reach the floor first.
After they had made our two spinners, and carried out their investigation, they discovered that their prediction was correct – the spinner with the chain of paperclips reached the floor first! They talked about why they thought it worked like that and they came up with two conclusions: “the chain makes the spinner longer so it will hit the floor first” and “lots of paperclips made the spinner heavy.”
