“That they may have life; life in all its fullness” (John 10:10).
At Burton School, we understand the importance of developing the Spirituality of all of our learners. We recognise that this is an ongoing process without a fixed destination and that Spirituality need not be linked to any particular faith.
We aim to provide opportunities, right across the curriculum, for pupils to develop their curiosity, be creative, ask questions, reflect on their experiences and change their perspectives.
We explore different aspects of our growth as spiritual beings through worship using the Diocesan model:
Sketch created by Brett. | Self (mirror): Understanding who we are, and how we are special. A reflection of ourselves to gain a better understanding of who we are as individual people and recognise how our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and experiences help to shape us and make us unique. |
Sketch created by Cora. | World and Beauty (window): Looking out on our wonderful world, and taking the time to reflect on the awe and wonder moments. A reflection of beauty: To have opportunities for awe and wonder. To be inspired by the wonder of life, to marvel at the beauty in the world around us and to experience creativity. |
Sketch created by Aimee. | Others (door): Reflecting on our own beliefs and values and respecting those of others A reflection of Others: To look at the examples and lessons we can learn from other people. To consider how other people might influence our own thoughts, actions and relationships. |
Sketch created by Logan. | Beyond (candle): Thinking beyond the things we can see. Thinking about God and the great mysteries of life. A reflection of Beyond: To develop our sense of mystery and to reflect on a higher purpose. |
