When possible, we try to contact the writers of the books that we like to read (after all, they're only human beings like us). Take a look at some of the conversations we have had!
Webinar with the one and only, Michael Rosen!
Children in years 3&4 were delighted this week to join established poet and author, Michael Rosen on a webinar. It was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his first book being published. The children loved listening to his poems and enjoyed hearing his answers to their questions. He told a lot of stories (none of which were true!) about being born in the Stone Age and there being a prison at his school when he was a boy. The children really enjoyed the session and it was a great opportunity for them to see a real-life poet.
Webinars with Katherine Rundell & Hamza Yassin
We have all enjoyed watching some webinars with famous authors in the last week. Years 5&6 joined 'The Explorer' author, Katherine Rundell talking about her new story, 'Impossible Creatures'. The children learned about where she gets her inspiration to write from and were delighted to receive copies of the book to add to their class book nooks.
Years 1-4 also joined Hamza Yassin talking excitedly about his new book, 'Hamza's Wild World.' Hamza taught us all to beat our chests like a silver-backed gorilla and how to purr like a cat! He also shared with us his belief that 'Dyslexia is his super power' and how he believes that if he didn't have dyslexia, he wouldn't be as successful today. He has still managed to write a book which we are all excited to read. We were delighted when copies of the text arrived in our class book nooks.
