It was really lovely to see so many parents and carers at our Reading Workshops. Parents and grandparents of children in Early Years and KS1 were able to watch two RWI lessons (with a dash of spelling!) to see how we teach phonics to develop decoding and fluency skills. Children in KS2 were then able to show how we develop their comprehension skills through looking at two very different texts - a wordless picture book and a narrative. The children's engagement (even though it was snowing!) was wonderful to see and they made us all very proud.
We have plans to hold more workshops in the future especially given the positive feedback and ideas we have had. We hope to see even more of you next time.
The PowerPoint Presentations from both workshops are below.
"I enjoyed working through the exercises with my child and seeing how they responded to answering questions 'in class.'"
"I never realised how many words a child learns from just reading from 20 minutes a day!"
"It was interesting to understand how children build up all reading skills."
