Packed Lunch

At Burton we ask you to provide a healthy and balanced lunch for your child. You also need to consider how much food you are putting into their lunch boxes as some may go to waste and too much can be overwhelming for some children.

Items you may wish to include:

  • Starchy food - this is bread, roll, tortilla wrap, chapatti, pitta pocket, pasta or rice.
  • Protein foods - A portion of lean meat, fish or alternative, e.g. chicken, ham, beef, tuna, egg, beans or hummus;
  • A dairy item - cheese or yoghurt pot/tube.
  • Fruits and Vegetables - an apple, satsuma, cherry tomatoes, carrot, cucumber, small tub of fruit salad or small box of raisins
  • A drink - 100% fruit juice, squash, semi-skimmed milk, yogurt drink or a bottle of water
  • A treat – Crisps, Cake or Biscuit based items. (from the cake and biscuit aisle)

Packed lunches should NOT include:

  • Nuts and nut products (we have children with severe nut allergies in school)
  • Banana and banana products (we have children with a severe banana allergy in school)
  • Confectionery such as chocolate bars and sweets.
  • Fizzy or sports/energy drinks

Our lunchtime supervisors encourage children to eat their savoury food first.

They will also ask children to take their left over food and rubbish home with them so parents can see how much has been eaten.

If an item of food that we have requested to not be in lunchboxes is brought into school, then the children will be asked not to eat it or it may be removed and given to the class teacher to be returned to them at the end of the day.

Bananas will definitely be removed due to the previously mentioned severe allergy.
