Andy Seed Author Visit
Our annual celebration of 'All things books' arrived earlier this month with children's author, Andy Seed joining in school for the day. The children loved hearing about his 5 good things about being an author with eating tea and cake to travelling the world being two of them! Andy spent time with each year group across the day and enjoyed hearing our children's questions, sharing moustache pencils and generally entertaining them with stories about his work and his books. It was lovey to then see so many children buying his books at the end of the day with some of this money going into our piggy bank at the Pop up Bookshop- thank you for your support.
Books at Bedtime
Books at Bedtime was also well attended and it was lovely to have some of our Reading Champions leading these sessions with the younger children. We raised over £100 with these events! Part of this money will be used by Rabbits and Doves Classes who won the February Half-term Reading Challenge. Each class got to choose 3 new books each for our Book Nook. The 2026 Guinness Book of World Records was one choice as well as the sequel to class read in years 3/4; The Last Fire Fox. It's lovely to hear that the children want to read more of the books we are reading to them!
World Book Day
PJs and onesies descended on World Book Day itself and the children enjoyed buddying up with other classes to read together. They enjoyed the webinars with years 5 & 6 being particularly intrigued by Kwame Alexander. The children also enjoyed looking at each other's 'Wooden Spoon Book Character' (the competition organised by the BSA). They really were awesome and made lots of us smile. Well done to all children who took part and an extra well done to our winners.
West End in Schools
We celebrated the end of the week with West End in Schools. Pedder led workshops for children from EYFS, KS1 and LKS2. The children were enthusiastic, keen and all channelled their Broadway Superstar which meant the afternoon was rounded off with a fantastic performance by the children of the story of Pinocchio to the whole school.
What a celebration of reading and all things books!
