Dear parents/carers,

Here you will find some suggested activities for learning at home.

Teachers have been asked to set enough work to provide 1 Maths, 1 English and 1 topic activity a day. There are also some additional activities for those who would like to use them.

Please remember that this needs to fit in with and suit your routine at home. It is up to you how much you complete. If you can manage nothing else, please continue to read with and to your child and practice number facts (ie number bonds to 10, 20, 100) or times tables.

A few tips:                                                                

1) Don't try to replicate school at home; you have other things to do!

2) Make a timetable with your child, and give them ownership over it. Personalise it to your child and your circumstances.

3) Include some of the daily chores you would like them to take responsibility for – eg. Making their bed, washing the dog etc!

4) Choose 2 or 3 activities from the plans provided (or your own activities) per day.

5) Set a time limit – small bite-sized, manageable chunks of learning will have greater benefit and it is more likely that your child will want to come back and do it again tomorrow.

6) Make the most of real-world learning e.g. baking, gardening, telling the time etc.

7) Share some of the work – or pictures of what they are doing – with the teacher via email or J2E. That way their teacher can praise and encourage them too!
