Welcome to the Modern Foreign Languages Page!
At Burton CE Primary we begin learning Spanish in Key Stage 2 but we are passionate about embracing all languages and cultures from around the world throughout our primary school journey.
Please read the following documents for more information.
European Languages Day
We celebrated European Languages Day this October. The day was kicked off with the whole school attending a Flamenco show. The dancer and her guitarist performed and encouraged us to call 'Ole!' if we were enjoying it. There were lots of 'Oles!' Children in Key Stage 2 attended workshops and were given the opportunity to try Flamenco for themselves.
Children 'travelled' around the school with their passports which were stamped on arrival in each country. Activities included making Bulgarian bracelets, Hungarian paper craft, tapas tasting and speaking the name of the longest place in Wales in Welsh! It was a great day and the children had a taster of the cultures and traditions of many other European countries.
Christmas Around the World
As part of our Christmas celebrations with St Luke's Church, we were invited to decorate a Christmas tree in the traditional decorations of a country of our choice. This gave us the opportunity to learn a little bit about Christmas in other countries as well as how to say 'Happy Christmas!' in that language.
The children in EYFS looked at Germany and the use of the Gingerbread Man as a decoration. Years 1 & 2 focused on China and the use of some scary but effective paper chain Chinese Dragons! Years 3 & 4 set off for Poland where they created decorations from pompoms to paper chains and flowers. Finally Years 5 & 6 flew to Italy where they designed baubles which reflected the geography of the country.
The trees all looked absolutely stunning.
¡Bien hecho a todos!
Chinese New Year, February 2020
The children in EYFS celebrated the 'Year of the Rat' by inviting their parents in to help make some vibrant and scary Chinese Dragons. We all thought their dragons looked fantastic!
新年快乐 Happy New Year!
